Dub ‧ ček, Al ‧ ex ‧ an ‧ der /ˈdʊbtʃek, ˌælɪɡˈzɑːndəʳ $ -ˈzæn-/ BrE AmE

(1921–92) a Czech politician who was the leader of the Communist Party from 1968 to 1969. He made political changes that gave people in Czechoslovakia more freedom, and this period was called the Prague Spring. It ended when the Soviet government sent its army to take control of the country.
