Siege of Sid ‧ ney Street, the /ˌsiːdʒ əv ˈsɪdni striːt/ BrE AmE
a gun battle in which two foreign revolutionaries (↑ revolutionary ), who were wanted for the murder of three British policemen, fought against police and soldiers in 1911. The two men were trapped in a house in Sidney Street, in the East End of London, and many shots were fired. The ↑ siege ended when the house caught fire and the two men died. The Conservative politician, Winston Churchill, then ↑ Home Secretary , was present at the battle.
