IMPACT ADJUSTMENT

An educated maneuver that repairs (usually temporarily) a piece of hardware via a swift smack or calculated drop (see percussive maintenance). Example: If the VCR starts buzzing, just lift the front edge about an inch and drop it-- that's usually enough of an impact adjustment to make it stop.
