A wave which results from the buoyancy force acting to restore parcels displaced from hydrostatic equilibrium by some external force. They are often formed at the tropopause interface at the top of thunderstorms and travel horizontally outward in all directions; transverse to the restoring force. This type of wave prefers to travel in stable layers (where the lapse rate is less than moist adiabatic).
