county, northwest Nevada, U.S., bisected by interstate highway 80, running northeast-southwest. The region consists largely of mountains (including the Trinity, Humboldt, and East ranges) and desert valleys. Pershing county was formed in 1919. The county seat is Lovelock, the only sizable community. The economy depends on gold and silver mining and agriculture. Area 6,009 square miles (15,564 square km). Pop. (1990) 4,336.
