the army officer who commanded the US Expeditionary Force in France in World War I . General Pershing’s popular name was ‘Black Jack’ because of his tough discipline. He had earlier served in the Indian wars and the Spanish-American War . He received the Pulitzer Prize for his book My Experiences in the World War (1931). The US nuclear weapon called the Pershing missile is named after him.
