Meaning of DEUTSCHE BIBLIOTHEK, DIE in English

English The German Library the national library of Germany. It was created by the merger (1990) of the Deutsche Bibliothek (founded 1947) in Frankfurt am Main and the Deutsche Bcherei (1912) in Leipzig, which until the reunification of Germany had functioned as the national libraries of West and East Germany, respectively. The system also includes the Deutsche Musikarchiv (German Music Archive) in Berlin. The library is the depository for all books published in Germany and collects German books published abroad, translations of German books, and literature dealing with Germany and Germans. Among its special collections is a holding of works written or published by German exiles between 1933 and 1945. It issues the national bibliography (Deutsche Nationalbibliographie). The combined holdings exceed 13,000,000 volumes.
