JOHN, DON

the villainous half brother of Don Pedro in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Fueled by a general malice, the embittered Don John creates havoc in Messina with his cunning, slander, and malignity. Don John is an early, somewhat two-dimensional study of villainy. His methods are comparable to the later, more interesting character Iago (Othello).
