born , Rome died , April/May 946, Rome pope from 942 to 946. He was a priest when nominated by the senator Alberic II, marquess of Spoleto. Marinus' pontificate was subsequently dictated by Alberic. He managed, however, to work for church reform, contributing mainly to discipline and monasticism.
