waterfalls in Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis, eastern Minnesota, U.S., formed by Minnehaha Creek, which flows to the Mississippi River from Lake Minnetonka. The falls have a drop of more than 50 ft (15 m) and were known earlier as Little Falls or Brown's Falls. They were immortalized as the laughing water in Longfellow's epic poem The Song of Hiawatha (1855). Where the Falls of Minnehaha Flash and gleam among the oak-trees, Laugh and leap into the valley.
