French Muse Des Beaux-arts De Montral, in Montreal, Canadian art museum with outstanding collections of paintings, graphics, furniture, textiles, sculpture, and the decorative and fine arts. One of North America's finest collections of Eskimo prints and carvings and Northwest Coast Indian art is preserved there; there is also an important collection of prints and drawings. The museum was established in 1847 as the Montreal Society of Artists; it became the Art Association of Montreal in 1860 and assumed its present name in 194849. It moved into its present home, a neoclassical building designed by Edward and W.S. Maxwell, in 1912. A new wing opened in 1976.
