city, seat (1907) of Twin Falls County, south central Idaho, U.S. Located close to Twin Falls (65 ft high), Shoshone Falls (212 ft), and Auger Falls (140 ft) of the Snake River, the city is adjacent to a spectacular canyon that bisects the broad, arid river plains. The community, established in 1904, grew up almost overnight with the coming of irrigation and a Union Pacific branch railway. It is primarily an agriculture, trading, and supply centre, but there has been some industrial development, including plastics, hosiery, and farm machinery manufacturing. The (junior) College of Southern Idaho (1964) is located there, as is the headquarters of the Minidoka Division of the Sawtooth National Forest. Inc. village, 1905; city, 1907. Pop. (1990) 27,591.
