born Feb. 15, 1861, Ramsgate, Isle of Thanet, Kent, Eng. died Dec. 30, 1947, Cambridge, Mass., U.S. English mathematician and philosopher, who collaborated with Bertrand Russell on Principia Mathematica (191013) and, from the mid-1920s, taught at Harvard University and developed a comprehensive metaphysical theory.
