a member of an organization of African Americans, formed in 1930, who want their own separate nation within the US. They believe in the religion of Islam and are officially named the Nation of Islam. Well-known members have included Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali . A new group, the Lost-Found Nation of Islam, was organized in 1977 by Louis Farrakhan , who later became leader of the Nation of Islam.
