I . Hoagy Carmichael
(1899–1981)
a US song writer, piano player and singer. His songs were usually slow and beautiful. The best known is Stardust (1927) and others include Lazy River (1931) and In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening (1951) which won an Oscar . Carmichael was chosen for the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 1971.
II . Stokely Carmichael
(1941–98)
an African-American leader of the 1960s who introduced the idea of ‘black power’. He led the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in 1966 and was later a member of the Black Panthers . In 1969 he moved to Guinea and changed his name to Kwame Toure.
