CASEY JONES


Meaning of CASEY JONES in English

a popular US song about a brave railway engineer called John Luther (‘Casey’) Jones (1864–1900). When the train he was driving was about to crash, Jones stayed on it to slow it down. The passengers survived the crash but Jones was killed. The song has the lines:

Casey said just before he died,

‘There’s two more roads that I’d like to ride.’

The fireman said what could they be?

‘The Southern Pacific and the Sante Fe.’
