Meaning of CASEY AT THE BAT in English

a popular US poem (1888) by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, about a great baseball player who fails. Casey has a chance to win the game but he strikes out (= fails to hit the ball three times and is dismissed). The poem ends:

And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;

But there is no joy in Mudville – Mighty Casey has struck out.
