Meaning of FLEET STREET in English

a street in central London, between the City and the West End , where most of Britain’s major newspapers used to have their main offices. In the 1980s most of the newspapers moved to new buildings in other parts of London to use new printing technology, but ‘Fleet Street’ is still used to mean ‘the British press’:

Their election defeat took Fleet Street by surprise.
