Meaning of GENERAL MEDICAL COUNCIL in English

( abbr the GMC )

a professional organization in Britain, started in 1858, which keeps a register (= an official list of names) of qualified doctors. It encourages good standards in medicine and deals with doctors who have not behaved in a professional way. If necessary, it can remove a doctor from the register so that they cannot continue to work as a doctor.
