a US national cultural centre in Washington, DC, on the Potomac River near the Lincoln Memorial . It was opened in 1971 as a ‘living memorial’ to President Kennedy . The main theatres are the Concert Hall, the Opera House and the Eisenhower Theater. Since 1978, Kennedy Center Honors have been awarded for special artistic achievements.
