Meaning of KNIGHT in English

( also knight bachelor ) n ( abbr Kt )

a man with a rank of honour given to him by the king or queen for his services to the country. He has the title ‘Sir’ before his first name, used with or without his last name, and his wife has the title ‘Lady’. The title cannot be passed on to his children. The equivalent title for women is dame (2). Other types of knight are men who belong to an order of chivalry .
