an English architect. His early work on private houses was influenced by a wide range of English architecture, including medieval styles and those of the Arts and Crafts Movement . His later designs, as in the Cenotaph , London, and the government buildings in New Delhi, show the influences of Greek and Roman architecture. He was made a knight in 1918.
