NBC UNIVERSAL

a company created in 2004 by NBC and Vivendi Universal. It owns a number of important film and broadcasting businesses which include the film production company Universal Pictures , cable television companies USA Network and the Sci-Fi Channel (USA), as well as the Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo. The USA Network had 86 million subscribers (= homes that pay to receive programmes) in 2003. It shows major sports events, and original and older films and programmes. Series include Monk , The Dead Zone and Traffic . Series shown by the Sci-Fi Channel (USA) include Stargate , Farscape and Battlestar Galactica .
