Most of North Dakota was part of the Louisiana Purchase , and the Britain gave the rest in 1818. The state is known for its agriculture: over 90% of its area is used for farming. Its agricultural products include wheat, beans, sunflowers, pigs and cattle. It also produces coal, oil and gas. Tourist attractions include the International Peace Garden on the US–Canadian border, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the badlands .
