Meaning of POUND in English

(1885–1972)

a US poet who had a great influence on other modern poets, including T S Eliot , Robert Frost , W B Yeats and James Joyce . He moved to Britain in 1907 and then lived in France and Italy. He made broadcasts praising Fascist ideas during World War II and was accused of helping the enemy. After the war, he was kept in a US mental hospital from 1946 to 1958 and then returned to Italy. Pound’s best-known poems are the Cantos (1925–60).
