Meaning of UNITED STATES INFORMATION AGENCY in English

( abbr the USIA )

a US government organization responsible for providing information about the US to other countries of the world, e.g. through libraries and cultural programmes. It also runs the Fulbright scholarship programme and advises the National Security Council on what other countries think of US policies. The USIA was established in 1948 and became part of the State Department in 1999.
