When you're browsing the Web and you see a highlighted and underlined word or phrase on a page, there's a good chance you're looking at a link. These friendly little guys allow you to "jump" to another web site, another frame, or another part of the page you're currently viewing. I think the term "hypertext" comes from the ability of links to quickly send you to another web destination. Just a guess.
