MARITIME ADMINISTRATION READY RESERVE FORCE

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) Ready Reserve Force is composed of 68 surge sealift assets owned and operated by the US Department of Transportation/MARAD and crewed by civilian mariners. In time of contingency or exercises, the ships are placed under the operational command of the Military Sealift Command. See also National Defense Reserve Fleet. (JP 4-01.6)
