GRANNY WELLS

Meaning of GRANNY WELLS in English

[Folklore] A folk term used to designate wells dedicated to St. Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Christ. According to Breton legend, St. Anne lived in Britany during her old age. Jesus would come to visit her, when he did she asked him to help the sick in the district. He therefore struck the ground with a staff causing a healing spring later named St. Anne-de-la-Palue.
