HINE-KAU-ATAATA

[Polynesian] The first child ever born on earth in Maori mythology. She is a daughter of Marikoriko, the first woman, and Tiki, the first man. Clouds appeared when she was born, announcing the first rain of the season -- a very auspicious sign. The rivers flowed, but without overflowing. Then the light of morning broke. Her name means "Lonely Gentle Woman" or "Lady of the Early Gentle Floating Shadows".
