COMBINED SEWER SYSTEM (CSS)

Meaning of COMBINED SEWER SYSTEM (CSS) in English

A sewage system that carries both sanitary sewage and storm water runoff. During dry weather, combined sewers carry all wastewater for treatment. During storm events, part of the load may be intercepted to prevent overloading of the processing facility. In this case, the untreated portion is frequently allowed to enter the receiving stream.
