(Mathematics) The value of the exponent that a fixed number (the base) must have to equal a given number. It is calculated as bx = y, where b is the base and x is the logarithm. The base for the common logarithm is 10. As an example, the logarithm of 100 is 2 since 102 is equal to 100. This may also be written as log10 100 = 2. The base of the Natural Logarithm is approximately equal to 2.718282.
