An international conservation organization incorporated in 1951 in the District of Columbia for scientific and education purposes. The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. Current resource conservation efforts cover Canada, the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Through private donations, The Nature Conservancy purchases lands and then either retains ownership or transfers ownership for management to other conservation groups, both public and private.
