Meaning of REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) in English

water treatment process in which contaminants are removed by forcing water through a membrane having microscopic holes that allow water molecules, but not larger compounds, to pass through. RO units do not remove all chemicals, and they generally discharge more than half of the total water as waste.
