A local bus standard set by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) that requires direct-to-CPU connections that limit the number of expansion slots in computers. The VL-Bus is faster than EISA and less expensive to manufacture. For a time it was the bus of choice for PCs until the newer PCI bus was introduced by Intel. (See also Bus )
