A transmission protocol for digital networks that uses destination routing, octet-oriented fields, variable-length messages, a maximum message length of 256 bytes of data, flow control, and connectionless services. It provides fast call setup via high-speed, circuit switched connections. Signaling System Number 7 is an integral part of ISDN. It enables extending full PBX and Centrex-based services outside the switch to the full international network.
