Ban Ki-moon /ˌbæn kiː ˈmuːn/ BrE AmE
(1944-) a South Korean politician and ↑ diplomat who was elected Secretary-General of the United Nations in October 2006. Before becoming UN Secretary-General he was the Foreign Minister of South Korea. He is known for being keen to solve the problem of ↑ global warming , and in 2007 he played an important role in persuading Sudan to allow UN ↑ peacekeeper s into the Darfur region.
