Hea ‧ ney, Sea ‧ mus /ˈhiːni, ˈʃeɪməs/ BrE AmE
(1939–) an Irish poet. His collections of poems include Death of a Naturalist , The Haw Lantern , and Seeing Things . He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995 and translated Beowulf into modern English in 2000.
