Stef ‧ fens, Lincoln /ˈstef ə nz/ BrE AmE
(1866–1936) a US newspaper writer who had a special interest in ↑ corruption (=dishonest behaviour by people in official positions) . He is known especially for his magazine articles about crime and dishonesty in city governments, some of which also appear in his book The Shame of the Cities .
