: any of several veins draining the temporal region: as
a. : a large vein on each side of the head formed by anterior and posterior tributaries from the scalp and adjacent parts receiving a middle tributary from the temporal muscle and uniting with the internal maxillary vein to form the posterior facial vein — called also superficial temporal vein
b. : one of the veins arising from behind the temporal muscle and emptying into the pterygoid plexus — called also deep temporal vein
