Meaning of STANDARD OIL in English

a large US oil company established in 1870 by John D Rockefeller . In 1911 the US Supreme Court decided it restricted trade and divided it into 34 individual companies. Rockefeller’s original company became Standard Oil (Ohio). It was bought by British Petroleum ( BP ) in 1987 and named BP America. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana) became Amoco in 1985. The Amoco Building, opened in 1973 in Chicago as the Standard Oil Building, is one of the tallest in the world.
