BÍO-BÍO RIVER

River, south-central Chile.

Rising in the Andes Mountains , it flows northwestward 240 mi (380 km) to enter the Pacific Ocean near Concepción . Though it is one of Chile's longest rivers, it is shallow and navigable only by flat-bottomed boats.
