(foaled 1943), American racehorse (Thoroughbred), winner of the Triple Crownthe Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakesin 1946. A chestnut colt sired by Bold Venture (winner of the 1936 Kentucky Derby and Preakness) out of Igual, Assault was one of the smallest of the great racehorses, standing about 15 hands (60 inches). He had an exceptional season as a four-year-old, was injured in 1948, raced again in 194950, and then was retired to stud but never produced an offspring.
