DUNG FLY

also called Cordylurid, any insect of the family Scatophagidae (order Diptera). These flies, common in pastures, breed and live in cow dung and speed its decomposition. The adult fly is yellow or brown and may be parasitic on insects; some feed on plants. Members of the Sphaeroceridae family are known as small dung flies.
