Meaning of EAST LANSING in English

residential and university city, Ingham county, south-central Michigan, U.S., on the Red Cedar River. The site was a remote area east of Lansing when Michigan State University, a pioneer land-grant school, was founded there as Michigan Agricultural College in 1855. First known as College Park, the city was redesignated East Lansing by the state legislature at the time of its incorporation in 1907. It now adjoins the state capital of Lansing. Pop. (1992 est.) city, 51,449; LansingEast Lansing MSA, 439,243.
