JOHN XVII (OR XVIII)

original name Sicco, or Secco born , Rome died Dec. 6, 1003 pope from June to December 1003. Chosen by the patrician John Crescentius III, he succeeded Pope Sylvester II. John was merely a puppet of the Crescentii, then the most influential family in Rome.
