formerly Kenai Fjords National Monument, national park in southern Alaska, U.S., on the south coast of the Kenai Peninsula within 20 miles (32 km) of Seward. Proclaimed a national monument in 1978, it underwent boundary and title changes in 1980. The area includes the Harding Icefield, its outflowing glaciers, and coastal fjords and islands, which are remnants of drowned mountains. A rich and varied forest is home to sea lions, sea otters, seals, and tens of thousands of breeding birds, including puffins, murres, and auklets. The park's total area is 670,000 acres (271,100 hectares).
