also spelled Penner River, also called Northern Penner River, river rising on the Deccan Plateau 7 miles (11 km) west-southwest of Chik Ballapur, Karnataka state, southern India. It flows north into Andhra Pradesh state and turns east-southeast toward the Coromandel Coast, emptying into the Bay of Bengal near Nellore, about 350 miles (560 km) from its source. The river is seasonal, becoming a torrent after the rains and a thin stream during dry periods.
