SILKEN FUNGUS BEETLE

also called Cryptophagid Beetle, any member of the approximately 800 insect species belonging to the family Cryptophagidae (order Coleoptera). Adults range from 1 to 5 millimetres (1/25 to 1/5 inch) in length and are covered with fine, silky hairs. These oval beetles are yellowish brown in colour and usually feed on fungi and decaying vegetable matter. Some species live in wasp or bee nests.
