SNOW LAKE

town, western Manitoba, Canada, just northeast of Grass River Provincial Park. Originating as a gold-mining settlement in the late 1940s, the village is now a copper-producing centre; it is the base for intensive mineral surveys following the 1956 discovery of new copper and zinc ores in the vicinity. Snow Lake, which stands amid a cluster of small lakes, is linked to the larger provincial cities by road, rail, and air service and is administered from The Pas, 90 miles (140 km) southwest. Pop.
