town, western Manitoba, Canada, just northeast of Grass River Provincial Park. Originating as a gold-mining settlement in the late 1940s, the village is now a copper-producing centre; it is the base for intensive mineral surveys following the 1956 discovery of new copper and zinc ores in the vicinity. Snow Lake, which stands amid a cluster of small lakes, is linked to the larger provincial cities by road, rail, and air service and is administered from The Pas, 90 miles (140 km) southwest. Pop. (1991) 1,598.
